Lost Planet: Post Fallux Freezage

Bleak has never been so beutiful…

Lost Planet, Capcom’s highly advertized arcade style 3rd person shooter has you killing huge ass bugs in a forzen tundra wasteland. The first level sets me in a post apocolyptic world were human had origionally set out to colonize because earth wasn’t cool enough for them. Unfortunately giant bugs attack and force every one to go home. But now earth is back and this time equipped with badass jetpack gundam things set upon killing all the bugs.

You start out as dude named something like William who happens to be a super soldier 1 man army gundam piolot. One day while randomly walking through frozen metalic bunkers, a bunch of rolling bugs attacks you, which triggers a magical escapade which ends up with a dead father (killed by a really fing bug) and a really bad case of amnesia.

One day, while william is having amnesia, a random group of space pirates find him and nurse him back to good health. These people are incredibly confusing and honestly only add crappy dubbed english dialouge to the story. Unfortunately they couldn’t cure his amnesia so poor will is left a fucking idiot. One day, over a glass of hot chocolate he remembers that a bug killed his dad, then he remembers how to piolot a gundam, then he remembers his name, then he finishes his hot chocolate.

The random group of space pirates offer to help. Unfortunately they never even step outside, but rather sit inside and give you orders to kill alot of bugs. Honestly all I remember as far as the story past this point is an overly large breasted enime esque girl in a really small coat.

So there it is, complete the missions. To complete the missions, kill some bugs. To kill some bugs, shoot the bright red glowing part on them (weak spot). Then collect the heat energy with your heat modulation fanny pack so you don’t freeze do death. Then you win.

The graphics are amougnst the best I’ve seen of the 360. It seems that everyone has masterd water so far, and it’s nice to see someone make incredibly realisitic snow for a change. The world around you is incredibly bleak, but you feel the presence of life all around you brought out by the ruins and desecrated landscape that litter the world. Charactor models are visualy apealing and sharp and at least the main charator still retains a cool vibe amoungst your army of idiotic team mates.

Though the gameplay, at times provides to be redundant, the fast action arcade style gameplay helped to keep my interst until the games end. There were esaily 40 different kinds of bugs and the variation of the levels was nice also. The bosses in this game are the highlight of it though. They scale hugely in size, almost like shadow of the colossus. Each one has a weak spot in which you must find to kill it. These fights were easily the best part of the game, I only wished it had lasted a bit longer.

The Good

  • Huge ass fucking bosses
  • Tons of different enemys
  • disgustingly good graphics
  • steady frame rate
  • decent arsenal of weapons
  • nicely designed mechs

The Bad

  • Messy controls
  • Terrible, scatterbrained stroy
  • retarded charactors
  • really short (6-8 hours)
  • Pretty bland Multiplayer

Overall Rating: 3/5
