Please, if you have some time, have a thought in regards to the cutest little face you’ve ever seen [posted above]. Please notice his gently folded hands, slightly spread outwards as if saying prayer of thanks. Then notice the his happy little smile which is serenaded my soft wrinkles which emphasize his pureness; his innocence.
Unfortunately Jack Thompson failed to notice the pristine, untouched beauty, that is Mr. Bill gates. But instead, sent a nice little letter of hate and damnation to the corporation known as Microsoft. Cho Seung Hui, the VT shooter, was reported by some of his friends to be a fan of Counterstrike and other violent video games. Counterstrike is published by Microsoft and because our good buddy Cho obviously trained and prepared for slaughter using Microsoft owned material… well, that makes them completely liable for the 32 who died. Here’s the letter that Thompson sent to Microsoft. Via Gamealmighty.
‘Several Korean youths who knew Cho Seung Hui from his high school days said he was a fan of violent video games, particularly Counterstrike, a hugely popular online game published by Microsoft, in which players join terrorism or counterterrorism groups and try to shoot each other using all types of guns.’”
Mr. Gates, your company is potentially legally liable the harm done at Virginia Tech. Your game, a killing simulator, according to the news that used to be in the Post, trained him to enjoy killing and how to kill. You knew five years ago that your on-line game, Counterstrike, so clearly figured in the massacre by a student in Erfurt that the event and the game impacted the race for Chancellor in Germany at the time!
Yet, here you are, five years after “Erfurt,” still marketing Counterstrike. having done nothing to disable the server(s) for this mass murder simulator, and it looks like “Virginia Tech” is a consequence. There’s more going on in the world than Vista. Just ask the bereaved Virginia Tech families.
Mr. Gates, pull the plug on Counterstrike today, or do we need more dead to convince you? “Virginia Tech” was the 9-11 of school shootings, and it appears Microsoft is in the middle of it, in more ways than one.
This kid, in 2005, was declared mentally ill and was declared a danger to himself or others in his home of Montgomery county, VA. He was also reported to be on numerous psychiatric medications for treatment of severe depression. He was often described as a loner according too a university spokesperson and as well a largely populated Korean club on campus. His roommates describe him as “mean and conflicting”, rarely talking and often times found stalking their female friends. Also he has been reported to have taken numerous pictures of women secretly from under his desk and has been known to stalk women. He also sent a picture of him holding guns to NBC studio’s along with a quote saying:
I didn’t have to do this. I could have left. I could have fled. But no, I will no longer run. It’s not for me. For my children, for my brothers and sisters that you f—, I did it for them…When the time came, I did it. I had to.
Strait up, this guy is obviously not right in the head. I don’t think that randomly one day while playi
ng a game of CS he decided that he should go slaughter a bunch of people. This guy was mentally ill and was always mentally ill. But anyways lets say he was influenced by counterstrike and other violent video games… well wait, did he watch violent movies? Did he listen to obscene music?
Jack has blown this so out of proportion that it may as well be a lie. Microsoft please sue this asshole right back in his face. I’m honestly hungry for some meaty, vengeful courtroom drama.
For more information on Cho Seung Hui, check out this detailed Wiki Page on him. Oh, and Gamealmightly keeps it real.

Is this about that black lady sitting with Billgates ?
..huh?
I have a counterstrike tattoo!!!!
seriously? you are blaming bill gates? and video games? i mean seriously, people are still doing that? why not offensive lyrics too? hey i heard there was a woman who is furious about Harry Potter b/c it promotes witchcraft. maybe you agree with that too?
the only people we can blame is ourselves, obviously there was neglect in this kid’s life at every stage. nobody caught him falling through the cracks, nobody realized how deep he had fallen off the age.
hahaha, bill gates. that’s a good one.
Um, when did microsoft start publishing Counterstrike? This Jack T. guy needs to have his tounge removed, and fingers amputated. He blames everyone but who’s responsible. Hasn’t he learned by now that he’s a joke to the entire country? Except for some loyal believers over at the WBC perhaps….

Don’t worry kids. Bill will ruin him.
If you’re going to try and post news for the world to read, at least proofread it.
Not to mention the SEVERAL spelling errors, you also need to do some fact checking. There is no “Montgomery county, VA”. Cho was from Fairfax County, VA. Perhaps you were thinking of Montgomery County in Maryland.
omg he was mentily ill in the firstplace they searched his drom room and omg not video games go tell hell jack tompson then maybe that Korean will tell you he didnt train on it and then every one eles can go on liveing their lives with out you jack cuz no one cares about you
…so why isn’t Jack-off going after Vivendi too?
Did someone splooge in his coffee this morning or something? sheesh, I thought he was stupid but this takes it a notch further
The only other guy that is gone in the head is Jack Thompson. Any idiot can figure out that this case is not related to violent gaming. If violent gaming were a major influence than the world would have lot less people. I personally have faced several guys gone in head. Almost everyone plays violent games. Just because someone who kills and plays violent video games, it does not mean they are influenced. Come on gamers, we are not going to let lies spread around.
oh and how the hell did bill do anyhting wrong counterstrike you blame him for that witch he didnt do damn you jack tompson oh why couldnt you be there at that school that day
too bad Microsoft never has or does not publish Counter-Strike.
Really video games dont kill. People with personal issues kill. I am 38yrs old I have been play video games for a long time. And I dont want to kill people. I have had alot of messed up things happen to me in my life and just because I play Cod2 online doesnt mean I want to go out and kill innocent people.
Maybe you should play games you might understand them better.
Jack Thompson is so messed up…I would really like somebody to sue him and force him to get psychological treatment. He clearly thinks videogames are something they’re not, and is completely clueless…I hate all the attention he’s getting.
“Mass murder simulators”? It gets so tiring!
And why Microsoft? Even though it’s been shown the kid didn’t even own any videogames…perhaps he played it elsewhere. But Microsoft only published the Xbox version…Valve is the owner and current distributor of CounterStrike…I don’t even understand how JT can’t even do simple research on one game before sending flaming emails to higher-ups, wasting everyone’s time.
Ugh.
i play every violent video game i play paintball and i have guns but i dont go shooting real people cuz iam not metaly ill like korean kim up there
I love playing Counterstrike as well but I have never had the urge to shoot up a school. I have a list of things that makes as much sense to blame for the slayings:
1. The manufacturer of Cho’s shoes- if he didn’t have shoes he might not have wanted to leave his dorm room
2. The manufacturer of the cereal that Cho ate the morning of the killings. Empty stomach=no energy
3. The manufacturer of the glasses that Cho wore. no glasses=no way to see his targets
This ridiculous list could go on and on. The cause of this horrific act lay solely with Cho and his mental illness. Why do we humans insist on finding meaning and fault in senseless acts? That is why the acts are deemed senseless!
@14
MS did publish the Xbox version of the game.
But really, thats it. JT is just looking for someone to sue.
i know why jack doesnt like video games cuz he couldnt beat this mario mod http://www.quixoticals.com/2007/04/most-frustrating-super-mario-mod-ever.html
#5 Confused, Counter-Strike was released for XBox through Microsoft Game Studios.
#8 Sabre, check your own facts before attacking others. Blacksburg is in Montgomery County, which does in fact exist.
#10 sleepyneko, agreed, odd he isn’t going after Vivendi or Valve. Then again, Microsoft does have the money.
I played far worse games than that in my youth. I would say that i had a violent disposition and found those games a good vent for discharging that anger. Now that i am older i no longer have any violent traits – even when i’m angry – so thank you Microsoft and others for channelling youthful anger and violence into harmless pixels. Its a pity Cho did not play more of those games as i suspect had he, it might have been a different story.
This was probably written by EA, to try and discredit CS, in the hopes of getting their Battlefield line a little more players.
Has no one commented on the fact that Microsoft has nothing to do with Counter-Strike (not Counterstrike; that doesn’t exist)?
Counter-Strike was NEVER developed by Microsoft, and MS has nothing to do with it. The closest connection they have is that they PUBLISHED the Xbox version. Even if they do have power over the CS servers on Xbox Live or something, that’s all. Most people don’t even play that crappy Xbox game (Cho Seung Hui included) in lieu of the superior PC versions.
The idea that Bill Gates can be blamed for the actions of someone who played a game (years before) that was created by a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT COMPANY is absolutely ludicrous. Besides, Bill Gates has say over the entire gaming division of Microsoft? He’s not even close to sending the letter to the right person.
And how much can this guy know about anything if he calls it Counterstrike?
it makes me sick that jack just cant blame that kid for doing it all cuz thats what the kid did he was mentally ill and should have never been sold a gun but violence in videogames movies are not the issue cuz i saw many killings in moveis and video games befor i was 5 if you shelter a kid by not leting him see something like that this happens just like swearing if you never swear in front of a lil kid he will swear alot more when hes older

…yet he cleared a gun clearance check in under a minute.
Where is your outrage against that Mr. Thompson?
Where are your letters to the NRA and gun shops and the right wing lobbyist who push for laxer gun control laws?
I’m not saying people shouldn’t be allowed to buy guns, but someone WHO WAS DECLARED MENTALLY ILL AND IS ON ANTI DEPRESSANTS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO BUY A GUN. This is common sense and you’re retarded if you don’t agree.
It is easier to get a gun license than a driver’s license and that is stupid.
And to all of you idiots who say that if the kids at that school were allowed to carry guns this wouldn’t happen… WRONG! It would have happened sooner and with more frequency.
“#8 Sabre, check your own facts before attacking others. Blacksburg is in Montgomery County, which does in fact exist.”
#21:
No one said anything about Blacksburg.
The original post says “in his home of Montgomery county, Va”
He was from Centreville, VA, which is in FAIRFAX County.
Ok, I admit that I was wrong about the existence of Montgomery County, VA. But I stand by my claim that the article needs to be proofread regarding where Cho is from. He is not from Montgomery County, VA.

And to all of you idiots who say that if the kids at that school were allowed to carry guns this wouldn’t happen… WRONG! It would have happened sooner and with more frequency.
you are wrong cuz if i had a gun and he came in and started shooting he would get one right in his damn face

Wouldn’t it be nice if all the gamers sued Jack Thompson all at once for.. what is this? Slander? Take everything he’s got so he wouldn’t have a voice anymore.
There was no talk of video games until this asshole brought it up. When he started he tyraid against games next to nothing was known about the shooter. Jacky Boy started this. Not the friends, not the family, not the dead kids, it was all Jack. The kid was crazy. Bottom line. He flipped and killed 32 people then himself. What if a driver gets in a wreck and happens to watch NASCAR? BAN NASCAR! Games aren’t going away they’re stronger than ever. But somebody needs to take the blame and it obviously can’t be the guy with the smoking gun in his hand.

To McFly,
Young people are emotionally unstable.
The more guns there are, the more often gun violence will happen.
Someone may not be able to kill as many people, but if it’s happening on a weekly basis…
But I suppose you’re right, as long as we keep selling guns to mentally unstable people who are on psych-meds. *sigh*
JACK = big old pile of dog S**T
THis is not a case of violent video games, music or movies. WHERE WERE THIS KIDS PARENTS????? Jimmny creepers, if my future kid acted like he did before the shooting, I’d be slightly worried and very pro-active.
Lets recount the stupid ideas that have come out of this tragedy –
1. Violent video games/TV/music causes violent kids.
2. If more people carried guns, then we’d have less killings/greater saftey
3. Americas schools are not safe.
Well, if anyone else can think of any, please add them.

So he played CS in high school? I’ll sacrifice being mildly racist to bring up a point i haven’t heard yet. He’s Korean. How many Korean teenagers HAVEN’T played counterstrike?
Furthermore – I’d like Thompson to explain HOW CS trains you to kill rather than say that it does. Does CS make you a better shot with a semiautomatic pistol, as was used in this case? Does it help you handle the weight and recoil better? Does calmness while playing CS induced by playing it a lot transfer over into firing a real weapon? Mind you live-fire weapons are much louder, are HOT in your hands, and pull at your arms when fired. Thats a little more startling than a simple mouse click.
Perhaps he learned gunfire evasion from playing the game. Perhaps he learned how to adequately check a room for threats. But CS can’t be held responsible for ‘pulling this off on your first try’ – if you pull a gun against unarmed people, you’ve put yourself in the extreme upper hand. “pulling this off” doesnt require anywhere near military training, as Thompson claims CS is akin to. This requires desperation, schizophrenia, suicidal tendencies….
I smell a hoax.

All CS made me do is miss several classes. DOes that mean that I can sue MS for my unused tuition money?
Be careful allways, svasta ima
Every time I eat Twinkies I want to rape and kill. I guess Hostess is responsible.
This is pure bullshit. In what world did MS publish Counter-Strike? Last I checked…it was Valve. Regardless of this, MILLIONS of hours are spent playing CS worldwide…when geeks and nerds take over the world via their CS skills…..let me know.
I give credit to http://www.GAMEALMIGHTY.com for the article. CHECK IT OUT!
Dude. This post is the biggest bullshit I’ve read in a long time. You are telling me you are blaming a man that gives more money to the world then the most powerful government in the world (of course us)!
So wait I forgot we only have the biggest military in the world that trains all those soldiers to kill and they do, but wait hmm maybe we should blame the military for teaching people to actively kill people too.
What’s next are you going to blame Donald Trump for motivating to buy property and then they fuck up and lose a lot of money because they didn’t have the smarts to begin with.
And lastly you already made the case that this kid was mentally ill. So doesn’t this make your post ill in itself. If he’s mentally ill you can’t blame microsoft for making a sweet ass game. You might as well blame Sony, Nintendo, Sega, and oh and don’t forget Atari too!
“Counterstrike, a hugely popular online game published by Microsoft, in which players join terrorism or counterterrorism groups and try to shoot each other using all types of guns.’””
MICROSOFT DIDN’T PUBLISH COUNTERSTRIKE LOLS
http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php
We’ve already ascertained that videogames don’t make people violent; shouldn’t this Jack Thompson be admitted into a loony bin for such a disjointed take on things? I wonder when he left reality to join the ranks of the Fundie Christians & your President?
The funny thing is, Microsoft never published counterstrike.
You got to be kidding me? Blaming counterstrike?? i played that game forever and i have never felt the need to kill somedone. Fuck that! You cant blame video games from waht a fucking NUT did. He was mentally ill..not from video games.
If you’ve followed the romps of Jack through the years you know that he is always way off course and misguided, and his angles of legal attack are always baseless and refutable by first year law students. There has never been a time to take his words less seriously. Our justice system provides air time for anyone who can type an affidavit, as it should be. This is another price of freedom. Hopefully he shook the wrong tree this time and Microsoft will bury him under a mountain of slander suits and/or counter suits if Jack wants to put his money where his stinkhole is. He usually finds his cowardice before it gets to that.

“America” is a death cult.
Yeah, you gotta blame everyone but the killer.
You kids need to get a grip – violent videos create killers like flies create trash.
Doesn’t anyone on this blog know the difference between publishing and developing? Microsoft PUBLISHED the Xbox version (and only the XBox version) of CounterStrike, even though Valve DEVELOPED it.
What you’re all saying is like saying “OMGZ Secker and Warburg didn’t publish 1984, George Orwell did!!”
Certainly there is little to no evidence to conclude that Cho played or even owned an Xbox. After all, his diatribe was directed at rich snobs, which would obviously point to him being somewhat less-than-wealthy. Had he been a wealthy person, he probably wouldn’t have targeted wealthy schoolmates.
Yes, it’s true that Microsoft has the power to deny or approve the publication of any game onto the Xbox console, and they can most certainly revoke the licenses for Valve to allow their games. But should they? Absolutely not.
So far everyone is pointing fingers at every thing and every person OTHER THAN Cho.
Jack Thompson is a moron, and I’m shocked and disgusted that so much hard drive space is wasted on him on blogs, Digg, and other sites, not to mention the bandwidth wasted on him as well.
To Sabre: I guess you could say Cho got what he wanted.
Omfg, you are a fucking retard, i hope you die a vary painfull death…
Hes just mad because Bill wont pay his $91,000 to the tax payers of Louisiana. Hey jack, heres a attourney question that youve most likely heard before. PROVE IT. Prove to us, us gamers, that video games make us violent. Prove to us that Counterstrike trains us to go on a shooting spree. Prove to us that video games, the only target media you have so intently put your lifes work and money on, that it has been such a big problem for people. Its assholes like you who teenagers hate adults. Its not the video games problem, its the incompetant and ignorant adults who think they are. So keep going on this stupid little crusade of yours, we dont care. Just remember most of the gamers your fighting against are most likely smarter than you. And the people that you think are on you side, are slowly, but surely losing all repect for you.
Oh and by the way, those kids from the penny arcade funds would like to thank you for the donation. Oh wait that wasnt you. HAH. But thanks anyways.
Sorry just a little rant ive been wanting to get out.
since when is counterstrike published by microsoft? this is news to me.
Microsoft published it. Valve developed it.
I play counterstrike. I used to be addicted to it. But I have never once thought about killing real people.

I tend to agree…
I think its up to the individual to seperate video game glory and godlike attitude opposed to real life copy-cat vengance –
I did come across this story though….
“Banned: Violent Games in Germany
Germany has taken steps to go even further and ban violent video games outright, the trade publication Variety reported. A bill placed before parliament would outlaw the depiction of violent acts committed against human characters, and would effectively ban most first-person shooter games.
The bill was introduced late last year after 18-year-old Sebastian Bosse shot up a high school in Emsdetten, injuring 37 before killing himself. An investigation revealed that Bosse spent most of his waking hours playing the game “Counter-Strike.”"
Jack Thompson is just evil. He’s exploiting a tragedy to further his agenda. This is no different than O’Reilly hollaring at Geraldo about immigration.
I find it interesting that you say Microsoft is responsible for what happened, but lets face it even if Microsoft never released the games in question there is still no saying if the shootings would or would not have occurred. Its like blaming computer virus’s on the scientists that developed the internet, the intention of the game is to provide thrills and stimulation.
Sadly there will always be people who will think that computer games are real and take them out of context, my only question in all of this is when someone is in the frame of mind he was there are signs to be seen by all so why wasn’t something done before all this occurred?
That’s just my opinion
http://www.paramiliar.com
There have been several mass murderers in U.S. history. I believe most, if not all of them ate fast food from time to time. Maybe Big Macs caused them to commit these acts?
Also, it seems they were all individuals who caried umbrellas on rainy days…could it be that umbrellas turn people into mass murderers…?
Many, if not all of them, owned at least one pair of running shoes . . .
That south korean guy did an evil act, but the message was correct he was passing on too much bastardization especially in US. plus some some weak people take it too seriously on their mind and becomes physco mad because of those games which i think should be banned.
I actually like Jack Thompson. Think about it…he united the gaming community and made them take up the cause of education. He also helped drive many charities and massive donations to places like Child’s Play just to prove that gamers aren’t the psychotic uncaring assholes that he thinks we are.
For that, Jack Thompson and his dickery have my thanks.

I am sick and tired of you idiots blaming other people for problems that aren’t yours to begin with, and couldn’t have even been prevented. Here’s the deal, the dude was a damn psycho, he could have easily been influenced by a sheet of dirty toilet paper sitting on the floor, as he could have been influenced by a video game. Here’s the deal: thirty-some people are dead, THEY ARE DEAD! They are not coming back, and neither is the person that killed them. So get over it. Why are we making such a big freakin deal about these thirty morons when there are hundreds (maybe thousands) of people getting killed every day for even less obvious reasons? Where is there ceremony? Why isn’t the flag at half-mast for them?
It is not the fault of video games or the people that make them, nor is it the fault of musicians, or anybody else that has enough money for you people to exploit. People are just idiots.
It’s my firm belief that Newton’s Third Law applies to all life, not just motion, thus, any method of prevention you might try, will ALWAYS fail sooner or later.

But this guy isn’t considering factors; he is simply trying to desperately point a finger at some company to stir up some controversy. I just read the whole article on Game Almighty, and personally I think the whole situation is asinine. Like I said, video games may have been a factor in these killings, but so was a plethora of other social factors. Music, movies, video games, and even the news to name a few. We see violence in the news all of the time. But this is beside the point. The killer was mentally disturbed, so trying to pass responsibility onto Microsoft is asinine. And trust me, I am no defender of Microsoft, I just think that this is ridiculous.
So basically, if we go on Mr. Thompson’s premise, every time someone commits a crime, and they have played a violent video game on a regular basis, the maker of the game is responsible. Just because a person plays a particular game quite a bit, it does not mean that they are “training” to mimic the acts portrayed in the game, even if they do commit these acts. Bottom line: There are many other factors that could have contributed to this shooting, but the mental state of the offender is definitely the most probable.
I love watching my friends playing ‘counter strike’ because it looks fun but iInever interested in trying one. The Korean guy should join the army earlier and be sent to places where he can shoot people and never be blamed and became an issue…When things get tougher, everyone starts blaming others where the time should be spent to think about our priority as human.

one of these days someone’s gonna shoot that thompson cat, and then say that videogames made him do it
Azari- Nope. You can’t do that since America is doing that to others. Korea don’t provide that kind of activity.
Right, Azari.
Our main priority as human beings should be to keep guns out of the hands of these powder keg types, who are always out there, and can explode at any time. This idiot blaming video games is taking attention away from the most important issue, gun control. Let’s face it, as a species, we still haven’t evolved enough to be trusted to be able to possess such murderous tools.
I thought that counter strike was a game from a different company. Isn’t it made by STEAM ? Or is the whole arguement that he played it on a Microsoft box ? What if he played it on a Mac ? Would that mean that bill gates is responsible still shouldnt it be STEAM for making it? Or what about in this new day and age we actually look at our parents and the way they lived and see that when they did something wrong they didn’t blame anyone else. What gives us the right to point the finger of blame away from ones own actions ? I didn’t shoot all those people someone put the gun in my hand and made me do it. Crap! You had it you pulled the trigger and no outside influence should be brought in to account for it. Grow a spin people and accept that you actions are your own and no one else is responsible but you’ll never guess who
YOU!
Are they fucking serious? How is he legally liable? They spout bullshit with no facts. Jack Thompson is a fucking idiot.
This is a rather interesting story. Let’s get an understanding before I ask a series of questions: guns do not kill people, people kill people. A gun was simply the tool or device chosen.
Question: Should we then go after Kraft/Philip Morris because the same company that makes our child’s mac-n-cheese makes cigarettes. Should we then go after Budwesier and whatnot because of those innocent people killed or severly injured by drunk drivers? Should we go after Sylvester Stallone because he influenced people being killed by his Rambo movies? Everyone is always looking for someone to blame. We should all remember while we point one finger at someone, three are pointing back at us.
Why not blame the real life equivalent? Anyone think the war in Iraq promotes violence and killing?
stfu guys, everyone knows mariokart caused 9/11
I play counterstrike.
I don’t go on rampages killing people.
Of course, however, I have a brain in my skull and a conscience on my shoulder. I’m also able to do the amazing feat of distinguishing fantasy from reality. I know that’s hard to do.

Well… raging on cs I think I meant this guy and yeah…
Maybe we (my clan) happened to rage him to do such actions with the world because he was stuck in reality.
Whoops? I am not to blame.
Possibly the worst blog entry i have read, or at least it ranks up there. What would happen if we did not have games such as Counter Strike, Halo etc? Do you think that all people would suddenly become light and fluffy?
If games were not available for individuals to vent their stress and frustration, you would find an increase in violence and random acts such as this shooting.
Do not insult the victims families by putting their deaths down to acting from a video game. Pull your head in and stop writing useless articles on a topic you have no sympathy for and obviously know nothing about.
even as an avid mac user, as well as my deteste for bill gates, jack thompson should be sued, honestly, this madness has got to stop, the amount of time counterstrike is played monthly is incredible…i hope that is equivalent to the time jack thompson is sentenced to…my ears bleed too many lies…we all have dreams, jack…except the thing is…you have lost. Good Luck with taking down microsoft even though they are almost not related (you might need it considering the attempts the government has sought ultimately did not work)
oh by the way let me know how much that quack dr. phil helps…
Hey-hey.. I am playing CS, Fable, and many other “killing simulation games”. But i don’t killing anybody, and wont be..
Valve developed and created Counter-strike and its half-life 1 and 2 series.
If anything Valve should sue msnbc or the one mud slinging.

Fucking Microsoft. bastards must be responsible for all problems. Fuckheads.
What?!?! Jack Thompson says a ridiculous remark about video games causing violence?!?! I’m SHOCKED!
Really, ol’ Jacko been saying stuff like this for ages, I’d be surprised if he DIDN’T blame this tragedy on games.
Not sure if anyone posted this already because I really didn’t feel up to reading all 110ish prior posts BUT I just want to make clear to everyone why Jack Thompson feels so strongly about this…. The truth is his heartfelt sincerity is THE ONLY way people will rally against the violent video game culture and take Microsoft to court. AND the only way that after the Microsoft trial is thrown out as Microsoft has nothing to do with Counter-Strike that people will still be riled up enough to take Sierra and Valve to court…. AND Jack will greatly improve his chances, seeing as he seems to lack the research and debating skills of a real attorney, to make a bit of cheddar. Lets be honest, we’re talking about the land of the free, and in all the confusion and emotion flowing out of the Virginia Tech situation someone NEEDS to make a bit of cash right, Jack Thompson is that go gettin’ cowboy who is ready to do what it takes to make that money. I’d love to meet Jack Thompson, ignorant people are always good for a few awkward silences while they try and figure out a way to spin an incorrect statement into something sensible. Also I have been wondering if he has considered maybe trying the goverment for some complaints about America’s Army? I mean that is not only a simulated killing machine which, would obviously (as Jack puts it) prepare Cho with the calm needed to execute his massacre, but the Government might just have more money than microsoft. Then again, Jack’s research skills are lacking…. ahhh well.
great point Ahizz, Jack Thompson is a mindless clown with no debating skills.
Man I love how he calls it murder simulation…. Honostly I am an avid Halo player. It is violent, I get excited when I blow out the opponents head with a well placed sniper shot. However its all in good fun. It is a game and if you use it as more than a game you are abusing it like any other resource. Because people use kitchen knifes, garden sheers, and other household items in rare cases as murder weapons should we eliminate them? Of course not these are special cases and like most special cases are hideous misuses of entirely innocent things…
Guys this is a satire poking fun at the money hungry lawyers and their blame game. Its obvious this guy is trying to muster up a class action against a deep pocket. For those of you that took this seriously sheesh….
Why don’t we just blame it all on whoever invented the thing called GUN!!!…. ???
If I could send a letter directly to bill gates every time i was pissed off at micro$oft….
I think Jack T is the main issue here, not video game or anything else, as he is obviously seeking publicity to make his post the most popular. Who knows total comments may surpass 200 soon. No doubt he got what he wanted. By posting more comments we are helping him to achieve his objective! He may be a fool to us, but aren’t we the idiots?

I did not even have to finish reading this post. I would have hated myself it if I did.
This post is nothing short of an idiocy. I didn’t click on this link the first time I saw it on “Blog of the minute” I could have done better not clicking it. It was everything I expected. Witless, empty, banal and even unimaginative.

This is ridiculous, how unstable to you have to be to blame a video game for someone else’s actions? I play violent games and watch violent movies but I’m no shooter. If you have to blame games for someone’s actions maybe you need to go a little deeper and look into the persons family history, if he had an mental illness, etc etc etc. Please do us all a favor don’t post idiotic things like this.
Dude, I have been playing counter strike, age of empires since last 5 years…but could never imagine this even in dreams…
Counterstrike is the least violent game i play.
Don’t you think that Microsoft knows that Jack Thompson likely WANTS to be sued, just so that he gets a bigger media platform to spew his nonsense in court? Thompson is small potatoes, and it’s highly unlikely that there will be a suit out of this.
It seems to me that Jack Thompson is one of those mentally unstable people president bush says we should be keeping an eye on. I think he was that kid in school who never had a nintendo and had to go play at a friend’s house so now he harbours ill will towards the gaming community.
KO or whatever is responsible for his own actions. Don’t you think that if he coulv’e got a fight about a stupid video game, then he would not be DEAD! He killed himself becuase he was guilty. If you were to play HALO then go out in your neighborhood and shoot a bunch of poeple that might be because you had been playing HALO but do you think that the cops are going to shut down a game because you were playing it before you shot all those poeple. You are responsible for your own actions.
These things are out there anyway. Hiding them in computer games is just a way of censorship to create illusion, that everything is okay. Of course there might be a possibility, that these games inspired him to kill, but he was an exception, not a rule.
There are millions of Counter Strike players worldwide. But only one of them actually pulled a gun.
Of course I must say, that in other countries the problem would most likely not occured because of strict gun policies. Either violent or not, guns would have been hardly accessable and require also a psychologists permit. Therefore only sane people can have guns. Most likely Cho would´nt have passed it.
(I did not read all the comments above, there was too many of them. I only got an eight-hour workday. I also apologise for my bad english.)
I dont see how you can Blam a game for this its down to american’s blaming everything but them selfs I play games like counterstrick and it does’nt make me want to go out killing.
If you want killings like this in America to stop ban guns simple no killings in this large scale could be done with a knife.
American’s blaming every one but them selfs! Bill gates is American but Blaming him instead of the collage the killer went too is just insane if this was to happen in Europe, America would’nt show it on the news unleass it was someone with a muslim fate that did the killing. Europe only shows this crap because of Trade with America its sick!
when i play counter strike i know im killing a bot and not realy a human being!!!!!
this kid had the same idea about it and only decided the world he lived in is a real shit where u have all sorts of racism and segregation.
if ur american u know the crap u have going all around america and u know ppl r discriminated even for the shirts they wear….
so!!! start to b a better human in ur own house and MAIBE u will have a better world outside ur walls
I think Cho was just a demnted young man who needed help! Blood on Bill’s hands I do not think so.
seriously! cut ur finger and send it to NBC….u will have the same impact that corean boy had….
I suppose that Bill Gates was responsible for 9/11 as well, since they supposedly used Microsoft Flight Simulator to train on flying planes into the twin towers.
I suppose that the paper companies that made the paper that kidnappers made their demands on are the ones to blame for the kidnappers actions.
Or perhaps the car manufactures are to blame for selling the vehicle allowing a bank robber to make a quick get away.

Half, it not most, of the people on this comment thread are really fucking stupid and illiterate. If you would have read through the post in the first place, you would have seen:
“Strait up, this guy is obviously not right in the head. I don’t think that randomly one day while playing a game of CS he decided that he should go slaughter a bunch of people.
I’m honestly hungry for some meaty, vengeful courtroom drama.”
No, I guess not. The poster is not saying he agrees with suing Bill Gates. DUH! Learn to read, idiots.

It’s the gun-rights advocates that usually rally around simple slogans such as “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” Gun control advocates usually don’t think about it in such simplistic terms. What gun control advocate goes around saying “people don’t kill people, guns kill people”? Only an idiot would. The fact of the matter is, yes, guns don’t kill people without a person behind the trigger. But, people do kill people very efficiently with guns. Much more so than knives or baseball bats. Yeah, if there weren’t any guns, maybe some psychos would find other ways of carrying out mass carnage, but in the States certainly there are very few ways to go from 0 to kill in 2 seconds and then take out a score of people in a very short time span with little or no preparation, than with a gun. If you can prove (statistically or otherwise) that the benefits of gun ownership in the U.S. outweigh the tragedies that have resulted because of such ownership, please do so. Otherwise you’re just using unimaginative arguments (“guns don’t kill people, people do”) and have no capacity for critical thought. You just want to protect your right to own your cowboy toys. I’ll generalize here: when we, as Americans, start thinking about protecting all human life, and not just our own, we’ll become part of a much better society.
Whatever’s new and popular at the time is what gets blamed for society’s (and specifically youth’s) problems simply because it’s new and it’s easy to make it a scapegoat rather than address the actual reasons for a given problem. Check out this pattern :
1950’s : Comics were to blame
1960’s : Hippies were to blame
1970’s : Dungeons & Dragons was to blame
1980’s : Hair Metal was to blame
1990’s : Gangsta rap was to blame
2000’s : Video games were to blame
to your infomation… microsoft did not publish counterstrike….
Agreed with beppo, that we always find things to blame but bill gates and counterstrike have nothing to do with this. Cho whats his face has been planning this for quite a bit now…

[...] Bill Gates is responsible for VT shootings according to Jack T. – Thehappygamer ‘Several Korean youths who knew Cho Seung Hui from his high school days said he was a fan of violent video games, particularly Counterstrike, a hugely popular online game published by Microsoft, in which players join terrorism or counterterrorism groups and try to shoot each other using all types of guns.’” [...]
This is actualy VERY funny, anyone noticed that Jack nickname was a direct reference to a good old cartoons made for kids in the 90′?
jihadjoe, one of the most violent cartoon made for kids…
I personnaly find this VERY funny!
In contrast, it’s disgusting when you think about people that are searching for others faults, when this is only the fault of society in general… But every kind of society has it’s extremist, im sure even cave mans had their owns! Im even sure that even in the ants species, sometimes one go crazy and kill many member of the colony!
Sad, but this is part of living in a mass!

[...] [GAMES] Bill Gates is responsible for VT shootings! -Jack T. [...]
ok… firstly;
1, this guy was a tortured soul who was mentally unstable and had been deemed by the judicial system to be potentially harmful to himself and others. The question you need to be asking is why he wasn’t in an institution recieving the help he needed??
2, I am an avid Counter-Strike player. Yes it is an extremely violent game(and there are Gore mods that make it even more greusome). I believe games of this genre need to have a NC17 rating because of the extreme violence in it. Before you bite my head off…. I say this because of the game’s content, and content alone. you could have the very same game done in paintball(there is a mod for this already)with far less graphical violence. Look guys, instead of looking at this as an attack on your gaming rights you should look at it objectively. On violent content alone it should recieve an NC17 rating(or M for mature). When you factor in the gore mods it is even worse. Children younger than 15 certainly do not need to be exposed to this kind of violence. children younger than 15 do not always distinguish the effects of real life V.S. video game when it comes to violence. The game doesn’t need to be banned or restricted or anything like that. What it does need, is for parents to decide if their children are mature enough to play the game. That’s right… Parents need to actually be parents and do their jobs when it comes to this issue. It is not the games which are the problem, it is the lack of proper supervision which is the problem.
3. GUN CONTROL- if gun laws are made more strict you hamper the guy who is trying to lawfully collect, display, and use firearms. More than 95% of gun owners are required by law(in most states). Which means that the majority of gun owners are trained in the handling and discharge of weapons. the other 5% are the ones who own guns illegally, legally but not trained, and criminals who aren’t following the gun laws anyways.. So the whole gun control issue doesn’t really wash.. because those who use guns in criminal acts aren’t going to follow the more stringent laws anyways..
4. MSFT, Bill Gates, and Counter-Strike — Microsoft did not develop Counter-Strike(referred as CS for the rest of the column), Bill Gates is an avid philanthropist. He and his wife spend most of their time doing work for their foundation(worth around 33billion as of late). The Gates’ are an shining example of what to do with your wealth. Counter-Strike is a game developed by valve, released through VIVendi, distributed by Steam(and retail sales)
good research and fuck parents and the police (NWA is the shit)
Funny how Rockstar games aren’t the problem any more…

Well bill games is obviously evil since him and google are in a quasi competition. I
seriously it is not the game. the Korean guy himself is in ‘trouble’ especially in his feelings and whatever he had in his mind, you know “trouble”…the only way he can think of getting out of it is by killing others and killing himself as well so that people will know that he is in trouble. it could be a warning or a lesson to the rest of the world that someone somewhere out there is waiting the right time to explode at any time. now he has become a role model to people out there that share the same “trouble” as his…watch your back students because this kind of incidents are easily happen in learning institutions as a result of all the tenses that evolved around…May God Save Us All…

It can sometimes get tough to split up the reliable black pearl choker facts from the bad.
There are the same comments regarding guns or paintballers. I recently saw a post about the fact that all paintballers were perverts because of some stupid people that were doing something they should not have done with women and paintball. But…like this comment a comment that stereotypes paintballers as perverts is rediculous. Paintball is an extreme sport that has turned in to a multibillion dollar industry. Nothing more, nothing less. There is never an end to the bad examples one can portray on any industry, daily activity or just life in general. Using an analogy, your mother is probably a pervert because the fox news hounds could surely dig up some devient behaviour from someone that has handled various foods over the years. So, naturally, none of us would assume that all mothers would do such a thing. In fact, videogaming is like paintball whereby, people think what they think and make rediculous comparisons and stereotypical statements. These people should examing their own lifestyles as it is likely that they will find some hypocritical similarities.
